Willa, Jewel Celebrate Girl Power

(Katrillion) -- Willa Ford and Jewel treated fans to a hot show Thursday.

The singers performed at the Pantene Pro-Voice Summer Showcase, a national music competition for unsigned females artists and female-fronted bands held at New York City's Central Park. Its goal is to celebrate young women who use their voices as tools for expression.

Willa, also a spokesperson for Pantene, performed her rowdy hit "I Wanna Be Bad," as well as the yet-to-be released ballad "Tender." Later in the evening, Jewel delighted the crowd by singing "Who Will Save Your Soul?" and performing the new tune "Break Me." She even did a little yodeling.

The folk-rock darling said she's been busy "writing a bunch of songs" for her next album, which she revealed will drop in November. "Writing your own songs is the way to go," she said.

Funny she should mention that. The show's contestants were judged on their original lyrics and musical presentation.

And the winner is ...

... Portland, Ore., native Libbie Schrader. Accompanied by her band, the Wash, Libbie wowed the crowd and celeb judges -- including Jamie-Lynn Sigler -- with her soulful rock piece, "Blood Red Moon."

She competed against four other finalists who were picked from over 1,000 entrants across the country.

"I was surprised when I won because there are so many talented girls here tonight," Libbie, 21, told Katrillion.

Schrader wins a demo recording contract from Atlantic Records, a $10,000 endowment for her high school music department, a new Ford Focus, distribution of her winning song on the Pantene Pro-Voice CD and multiple performances as the opening act on an established artist's fall tour.

You go make music, girl!
