![]() Yahoo News; May 6 2002 By: Jason Gelman The music of British R&B sensation Craig David and pop singer Willa Ford will be featured in a new radio ad campaign for the soft drink 7-Up. In the "7-Up Explains The Lyrics" ads, a well-intentioned but clueless 7-Up spokesman attempts to interpret--and winds up misinterpreting--lyrics from David's hit single "7 Days" and Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad." The 7-Up spokesman misinterprets lyrics from Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad" after she sings, "I, I wanna be bad/You make that feel so good/I'm losing all my cool/I'm about to break the rules/I, I wanna be bad." The spokesman reaches the conclusion that she must be singing about 7-Up, saying in the spot, "What else could make her feel so good? Willa is about to lose her cool and is desperate for that 7-Up refreshment. Unfortunately, she's so desperate she's about to break the rules. Don't be bad, Willa. Pay for that 7-Up." The spots end with the spokesman saying, "That's '7-Up Explains The Lyrics.' Until next time, make 7-Up yours." John Clarke, the chief advertising officer for Dr Pepper/7-Up, said in a statement, "We're very excited to be working with such top-rated recording artists on the new '7-Up Explains The Lyrics' campaign. The music of Craig David and Willa Ford really resonates with our key 7-Up consumers."
